Why Others

In Short

Why couldn't we extend group purchase benefits, that are typically reserved for corporations, to smaller groups of everyday people? This idea was the spark that led us to create Others.

Luke and I embarked on our e-commerce journey a long time ago, founding two companies along the way. Our first, a small humble hat venture, laid the groundwork for what would much later become Fair Morning, where we craft sustainable tote bags with seasonal colors. Our journey hasn't been without its trials, especially with Fair Morning. Rising customer acquisition costs have been a constant hurdle, growing steeper by the day. It's a challenge that weighs heavily on us, as we juggle full-time jobs alongside our entrepreneurial dreams. Our attempts to break through the digital marketing noise have always felt like an uphill battle. We’ve been trying everything - from expensive social ad campaigns to direct outreach on social media. Despite our best efforts, the impact on sales has been minimal, and the sustainability of these tactics, both physically and financially, has been questionable. The reality of high CAC looms largely over us and frankly has taken away a lot of motivation to employ any new marketing tactics. Fairly recently an unexpected opportunity presented itself - a large financial firm showed interest in a bulk order. They expected the kind of substantial discount typically reserved for corporate purchases, which opened our eyes to a new possibility. Though the deal didn't work out, it sparked a moment of realization for us. Why couldn't we extend similar bulk purchase benefits to smaller groups of everyday people? This idea was the spark that led us to create Others. Discussing this idea with businesses and consumers has been enlightening, though not without its challenges. There's a mix of excitement and skepticism - businesses worry about consumer understanding, while consumers doubt businesses' willingness to offer such deals. Yet, here we are, committed to developing our first Shopify app, undeterred by the daunting task of educating the market about this new way of buying. Luke and I are ready for this journey, fueled by our belief in the power of group and conditional buying.
